Safety Marshal and De-escalation Training
June 12 - Lexington Center, 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm
(address provided when you RSVP)

Indivisible LAB - (Lexington, Arlington, Bedford and beyond) invites you to attend free safety marshal and de-escalation training hosted in Lexington.

Marshaling is a form of organizing people for a safe, nonviolent, and enjoyable public event. This 3 and 1/2-hour training covers the job of marshaling for protest demonstrations—such as for an upcoming No Kings! rally or for any march, sidewalk standout with signs, or sit-in. In addition to promoting common street safety, the training will present and demonstrate essential skills to de-escalate interactions with agitated protesters, the police, and counter-protesters. These skills are valuable, not just for marshaling, but for any activist who participates in demonstrations.

If you are looking to assist at a protest event you are encouraged to take this training so that local organizations can build a reliable collective of trained marshals to call on.

Refreshments are provided.

About the trainer: Rebecca Riccio, founding director of the Social Impact Lab at Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities, has trained and led marshal teams at many events including the 2019 Boston Climate Strike and the 2025 Hands Off! protest in Boston.
